Boxed For Success Drive is About Helping Children Succeed

by PBUnitedWay

UW school drive bannerAccording to the National Retail Federation, the average family needs to spend $635 per child to prepare them for school.   With as many as 54% of Palm Beach County public school students eligible for free or reduced lunch, $635 is not something that many families can afford.  That means these students will probably lack the supplies they need to go back to school prepared for success.

The Town of Palm Beach United Way’s Boxed for Success School Supply Drive is not just about pencils, paper and crayons.  It is about helping every child in our community start school with the confidence they need.  It is about bringing a smile to the faces of both students and parents.  It is about helping every child succeed.

This year please join Youth United (a group of local high school students working to promote the mission of the Town of Palm Beach United Way) for the 2nd annual school supply drive, July 1 through August 10.   The supplies will be donated to three Title I elementary schools:  Hope Centennial, Belle Glade and Northmore Elementary Schools.  Title I schools are those with high levels of poverty (based on the number of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch).

The concept is simple: Take an empty shoebox from your closet, decorate it, and fill it with school supplies. There are also prizes for the Best Overall Shoebox ($200 Amazon Gift Card), Most Creative ($25 Muvico Gift Card), Best Theme ($25 Muvico Gift Card) and Most Color ($25 Muvico Gift Card).

Don’t worry if you’re not feeling creative – we will accept all supply donations – even if they aren’t in a decorated box.

Visit our website for more information and a detailed list of needed supplies for elementary school children.
