memorial day

For many, the real meaning behind Memorial Day is lost — it’s just another day off of school or work or an appreciated 3-day weekend. But this “day” is one that represents a national awareness and respect for those brave Americans who died while defending our nation and its values.

It’s about Americans who elected to serve in the US military, that chose to follow orders and then made the ultimate sacrifice. We have several veterans’ cemeteries in Palm Beach County. There you will find many buried soldiers who lived full lives. But you will also find headstones that tell the story of a curtailed life. Each of those markers represents the crumpled dream of a parent, wife, child, brother, or sister.

We hope that, in between hanging out with friends and family and firing up the grill, you hit the pause button and took a moment to remember that this was not just a day off from work or school. Our fallen heroes chose to put their lives on the line for many reasons, but we’re pretty certain that giving us a day-off was not one of them.

Today and every day, please remember the men and women from our armed forces who paid the highest price to secure and safeguard our nation’s freedoms.

Let’s Do This

Please share with us how you made your week count. No, it doesn’t need to take place on Monday – Monday just gets us excited about what the week has to offer, what we (ourselves) have to offer.

  1. Follow us on: icons
  2. Look for the weekly theme on all of our social media throughout the day on Mondays
  3. Photograph, video, post, tweet about your experience
  4. Remember to tag @PBUnitedWay and use the weekly hashtags
