WEEK 21 OF ACTION: DONATE (OR SHOP) – IT’S NATIONAL THRIFT SHOP DAY!

Not all donations have to be monetary. Next time you get in the cleaning mood, box up your used items and drop them off at a local thrift store. Most resale shops are run by unpaid volunteers and the profits go to a charitable organization. Your unwanted items might help fund dinner at a soup kitchen, tutoring for school children, or college classes for a single parent.

Donating to your local thrift shop is an easy way to make a difference in your community. In celebration of National Thrift Shop Day, (Monday, August 17), the Town of Palm Beach United Way is asking you to donate or shop sometime this week at your favorite thrift shop.

In Palm Beach County, we have many thrift shops that support our community with the mission to better the lives of others. By shopping in these agencies’ thrift stores, you can do your part by supplementing their revenue.

So from August 17-23, SHOP TILL YOU DROP, go out and support your community by giving back while getting some great deals. Here is a link for local thrift shops and the nonprofit organization that is supported: http://www.thethriftshopper.com/city/Palm_Beach/FL/1.htm
