GIVE: WHY FOCUS ON THANKSGIVING IN OCTOBER?

I’d like to spend the next 8 ½ weeks focusing on Thanksgiving. That’s right, Thanksgiving. Yes, I know that the official American holiday falls on the fourth Thursday in November, not the last Monday in September. So, yes, I know that I’m a little early. But I’d like to begin to offer some thoughts on Thanksgiving, even though we won’t be sitting down to a Turkey dinner for another 1,254 hours or so.

Why start a conversation about Thanksgiving now? In 2009, a few friends got together and made Thanksgiving a little brighter in Palm Beach County by organizing a 5K on the island of Palm Beach and inviting others to run, walk or trot and in turn distributed food to 30 families. Seven years later, those few friends have grown in number and are aiming to distribute over 2,000 Thanksgiving meals to local families in need. As you begin to think about your plans for the Thanksgiving holiday, we invite you to partner with us on November 26, as we make a difference in our community through the 7th Annual Town of Palm Beach United Way Turkey Trot. I can’t think of a better way to spend your Thanksgiving morning.
