WEEK 54 OF ACTION – EMPTY YOUR PANTRY FOOD DRIVE

by PBUnitedWay

Last week we talked about cleaning with a purpose.  This week, we are going to continue that but with a focus on food.  Please consider taking part in our 4th Annual “Empty Your Pantry Food Drive.”  The food drive is a partnership with The Palm Beach Daily News, Palm Beach Fire Rescue and The Town of Palm Beach United Way.

To participate, please drop off nonperishable food from April 4th -25th to the following locations:

Palm Beach Daily News: 400 Royal Palm Way, Suite 100

Town of Palm Beach United Way: 44 Cocoanut Row, M201

Palm Beach Fire Rescue North Station: 300 North County Road

Palm Beach Fire Rescue Central Station: 355 South County Road

Palm Beach Fire Rescue South Station: 2185 South Ocean Boulevard

15.4% of Palm Beach County residents are food insecure – meaning they are unsure where their next meal will come from.  This year’s food drive will collect non-perishable food and donations for two of our partner agencies – Feeding South Florida and The Glades Initiative.

Feeding South Florida is South Florida’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization through its network of over 100 nonprofit partner agencies in PBC, distributing nutritious foods they rescue and providing programming and education to the 202,110 residents who experience food insecurity.  Feeding South Florida rescues and distributes over 11 million pounds of food per year in Palm Beach County alone.

The Glades Initiative food program increases food security in Belle Glade by operating as a food bank for the western part of Palm Beach County, distributing food for pantries and soup kitchens, as well as educating the residents about food budgeting, healthy cooking, and enrolling residents in food assistance programs.  The Glades Initiative provides food to an average of 5,000 individuals in the western part of the county per month.

So from April 4th-25th go through your pantry and donate nonperishable foods for our local food drive.  Checks made payable to the Town of Palm Beach United Way will also be accepted and can be mailed to: 44 Cocoanut Row, M201, Palm Beach, FL 33480. Please be sure to put Food Drive in the memo of the check.
