Volunteer Spotlight: Jorge Cabrera

by PBUnitedWay

Our monthly Volunteer Spotlight recognizes Town of Palm Beach United Way volunteers who are passionate, inspiring and dedicated. They are individuals committed to transforming lives and who invest in our vision of building healthy and strong communities.

Jorge Cabrera has been a volunteer at the Town of Palm Beach United Way for the past 6 years and has served on our Allocation committee.  This year Jorge will be Co-Chairman of the committee and has agreed to serve on our Board of Trustees.  We sat down with Jorge to ask him a few questions about volunteering at the Town of Palm Beach United Way and what it means to him.

What made you choose to volunteer with the Town of Palm Beach United Way?
Several years ago I was fortunate to have the opportunity to participate on the Town of Palm Beach United Way Allocation Committee.  I truly believe in the responsibility we all have to share our experiences, knowledge and resources to make a positive impact on our community and there is no better way to do this than to serve with the United Way. I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve alongside so many dedicated volunteers and to work with the United Way team.

What do you like most about volunteering with the Town of Palm Beach United Way?
Seeing the positive impact the United Way makes right here in our community. There are numerous organizations that go unnoticed unless you are involved with the United Way. Learning about these various organizations that provide assistance and support to our community has been a terrific learning experience. Meeting other volunteers on the allocations committee has also been great.

What have you learned by being a volunteer with us?
The importance of being engaged with our community and that there is always someone who needs our assistance. There are so many needs that we are trying to address. We are fortunate to have terrific donors and a wonderful staff who make the volunteering experience and outreach what it is today.

What do you do when you’re not volunteering?
I am usually in my office at The Breakers were I am the Director of Accounting and Technology. When I am not in the office I enjoy spending time with my family and doing whatever makes them happy. I am also an avid runner and enjoy working out.

What is your most memorable volunteer moment?
Every year creates a memorable moment as we usually visit a new organization. Hearing about the mission of the various organizations and how hard they work to fulfil their responsibility is inspiring.
