GIVE: WHY FOCUS ON THANKSGIVING IN OCTOBER?

I’d like to spend the next 8 ½ weeks focusing on Thanksgiving. That’s right, Thanksgiving. Yes, I know that the official American holiday falls on the fourth Thursday in November, not the last Monday in September. So, yes, I know that I’m a little early. But I’d like to begin to offer some thoughts on Thanksgiving, even though we won’t be sitting down to a Turkey dinner for another 1,254 hours or so.

WEEK 26 OF ACTION: INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY

Monday is International Peace Day.  It is a day for everyone around the world to reflect on how we can contribute to make our world a more peaceful place. It’s a moment to pause… to reflect on the impact we have on the world… and to raise our expectations of what is possible.

WEEK 25 OF ACTION: ARTS IN EDUCATION

Maxine Greene (educational philosopher, educator, and author) explained it best when she said, “the arts, it has been said, cannot change the world, but they may change human beings who begin to change the world.”

UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL: REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11TH

I think this is a strong message that we should all reflect on as AMERICANS, from where we were 14 years ago today, to where we are now.

WEEK 24 OF ACTION: LITERACY DAY, GO READ A BOOK!

You might not know this, but Sunday was National Read-A-Book Day. I hope you turned off the TV and all your electronics and read a book.
